Product description

Michael’s baby sister is sick, maybe dying. As his parents spend their days at the hospital, his life seems suddenly lonely and uncertain. But one day he stumbles into the ramshackle garage of their new home and finds something magical: a strange creature, part owl, part angel. Is it good? Or maybe evil? What is Skellig’s miraculous secret? Can it help him to breathe life back into his sister and stick his broken world together again? Winner of the Carnegie Medal, this hypnotic modern classic shimmers with magic and wonder.

“Touched with a visionary intensity, this strange, hugely readable and life-affirming tale exercises every muscle of the imagination.” Guardian

“Truly original, mysterious and affecting … Almond treads with delicate certainty, and the result is something genuine and true.” Philip Pullman

    This book is… INTERESTING.

I haven’t really read another book as mysterious as this. But I can say, you certainly can’t put this book down, once you’ve started. The only bad thong about it, is that sometimes it gets quite boring.

This book is really spooky and interesting. Michael has just moved into a new house which is disgusting and looks like it is about to fall down.Michael and his friend Mina find a strange angelic creature in Michael’s garage. When they take the creature out of the garage it changes Michael’s life for ever.

Also the film is great!!!! I would rate it 10/10

Do not be fooled by the cover of the book this book is a truly exceptional book. We have read it in 1st year. If you like a simple book with lots of twists and turns this book is for you. I felt like a detective reading it. I have also learnt a lot of new things after reading it: archaeopteryx, calcification, William Blake poems, Persephone, Daedalus and Icarus. This book Skellig is about Michael (protagonist) meeting a girl called Mina who learn a lot from each other and from Skellig. They don’t know who or what Skellig is but when they do they count themselves as ONE IN A MILLION! This is a must read book…..

Once Michael moved into a crumbling house, he knew his life would change forever. How right he was. At first, the creature in the garage would barely speak. But eventually, it warms up to Michael and his trustworthy friend, Mina. Maybe, just maybe, Skellig will be able to help Michael’s dying sister. You’ll have to read to find out!

My all time favourite book. I couldn’t stop turning the pages!

‘I knelt down beside him. “Can I get you anything?” I asked. “27 and 53.” he replied. “Anything else?” I questioned. Did he only eat 27 and 53? “27 and 53. 27 and 3” he repeated, scratching his pale nose. “If you insist. I’ll bring some when ever I get the chance.” I promised. I hope I can persuade dad to get Chinese tomorrow…’

Can Michael and his friend, Mina find out who this thing really is? Follow the two adventurous buddies as they try to find out who the mysterious figure living in Michael’s garage really is… Or will his parents find out first? Will the garage crumble to bits before they can rescue the mysterious figure? Read the book, and let the story unfold before your eyes…
