Eleanor Updale was born in London, and read history at Oxford University. For many years she was producer for BBC radio and television. Now, as well as writing the MONTMORENCY books, she is back in the academic world, studying at the Centre For Editing Lives and Letters, at Queen Mary, University of London. She is a patron of the Prince of Wales ‘art for kids’ foundation. She lives in Richmond, Surrey with her husband James Naughtie and their three children.
