Product description
“Dead girl walking,” the boys say. “Tell us your secret,” the girls whisper.
Lia and Cassie were best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies. But now Cassie is dead. Lia’s mother is busy saving other people’s lives. Her father is away on business. Her stepmother is clueless. And the voice inside Lia’s head keeps telling her to remain in control: stay strong, lose more, weigh less. If she keeps on going in this way – thin, thinner, thinnest – maybe she’ll disappear altogether… Published in the US to outstanding critical acclaim, this is a lyrically told and utterly chilling account of a girl’s descent into the all-consuming vortex of anorexia, written by the Carnegie Medal shortlisted author of Chains.

Sad and beautifully written
A serious subject sensitively handled. I was completely engaged throughout this book being simultaneously fascinated and appalled by Lia's actions. Lia is dealing , or rather not dealing, with a myriad of problems; anorexia, the death of her former best friend, the break-up of her parents marriage and the subsequent remarriage of her father as well as regular things like school. If only she could lose another 5lb and another 5lb and another 5lb…
Sad and beautifully written in diary format so we are always viewing the situation from Lia's perspective. Most touching of all is the relationship between Lia and her young step-sister . Highly recommended.
