Product description
Verity’s old tabby cat, Mabel, might not be quite as lively as she used to be. And yes, she smells a bit, and doesn’t always make it to the litter tray on time. All the same, Verity adores her… not least because she belonged to Verity’s mum, who died in childbirth and whom her dad and grandparents can’t bear to talk about. So when Mabel dies, Verity is devastated. Remembering her lessons about the Ancient Egyptians, she decides to mummify Mabel and keep her forever. But when Verity’s family find out what she’s done, all hell breaks loose – and they realise it’s time to talk at last…
- A comical, heartbreaking tale by a superstar author

- Perfectly pitched for confident, curious young readers
- Jacqueline Wilson is a former Children’s Laureate
“Both hilarious and poignant… Another sure-fire hit.” The Scotsman
“The loss of a loved one is dealt with lightly and gently.” Financial Times

on 1 December 2016This book is one of my favourites. I love the way Jacqueline Wilson has captured yet again, the problems children face while growing up. The first time I read this book, I cried. The Cat Mummy is such a classic, that it is an essential to every Jacqueline Wilson fan. I just loved it!

on 3 March 2011This a very good and moving book. In my opinion it teaches good lessons and did make me very almost cry. I feel really sorry for Verity as Mabel is her only cat and her best friend. If I could have done this with my cat when she passed I would have!
