Product description

There was an old green Fordson tractor in the back of Grandpa’s barn, always covered in cornsacks. When I was very little, I used to go in there, pull off the cornsacks, climb up and drive it all over the farm.

A boy gives his grandfather a great gift, and receives one in return, in this moving book from a master storyteller. Every time the boy visits his grandfather on his Devon farm, he is spellbound by the tales he tells: powerful stories of war, rural life and changing times. But when Grandpa reluctantly confesses that his ability to read and write has slipped away, can the young boy help him, and repay the gift of his stories? With fabulous artwork by Michael Foreman, this warm and vivid book celebrates the passing of time and the enduring link between the generations.

It’s a great book and is a good sequel to War Horse. It tells us a little more about the story as well.

This book is truly amazing and definitely lives up to War Horse! I wasnt as keen on war horse as I was to Farm Boy, I thought Farm Boy had a lot more feeling and understanding behind it and emotion which you could feel as the reader., so this made it a bit ore exciting. I only wise that this book was longer like War Horse and then maybe you would of known the characters a lot better. I would recommend this book to younger readers like 8-12 year olds as it is quite a short book and its certainly easy to understand.

This book is about a very special and talented horse called Joey who had been sent to go into war at an early age. During his experience on the front lines, Joey saw a lot of death, horse and human, but carried on. This is the story of a grandad telling his grandson all about Joey and what it was like but Grandpa tells his Grandson a lot more than he’s ever told anyone before…

This is a very heart warming book and defiantly worth reading!

Its a beautifully told story but not as emotional and deeply told as War horse. But it is told in a good way and its easy to understand. Michael managed to get a moral across throughout the book which is always nice in a book, and if you read this faboulous book you will be deeply entwined in it as I was even though it only took me a morning to read it.:) You SHOULD read this book :)

I didn’t enjoy this book nearly as much as War Horse. I found this one less emotional, and it might just be because War Horse was so incredible, but this had less of a story. I loved this book, but loved War Horse more.
