Good value for money
Having used and included exercises from IELTS listening into my classes, I can only say that it is a great resource book and suitable for the preparation but also for the actual conduction of exams. There are all types of exam formats included (e.g. multiple choice, matching, note completion) although note completion is the prevailing one.
What I found really useful about the book is that it provides a pre-listening task at the beginning of each topic. This helped me to enhance my students’ level of motivation, tune them in and to improve their speaking skills at the same time. However, the format of this task remains the same throughout the whole book (pair discussion with pictures and questions), which I believe is slightly too tedious.
Another positive aspect is that vocabulary exercises are included for every topic (different formats) and also exam tips that turned out to be quite helpful for my students.
One aspect that I could criticise is that the level of the book is possibly not a 100% suitable. I’ve already used it with my 4.5-5.0 students (CEFR – level B1) and they could also do the tasks easily. I’ve also recommended the book to one of my weaker students because I think it’s a great resource for self-study purposes as both transcripts and solutions are offered at the end of the book.
Cutting a long story short, IELTS listening is good value for money and a definite must-have that deserves a spot in every English teacher’s bookshelf.
