Product description

The moving story of a horse’s courage amid the deadly chaos of the First World War. In 1914, Joey, a young farm horse, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of battle on the Western Front. With his officer, he bravely charges down the enemy, witnessing all the terror and horror of the frontline. Even in the desolation of the trenches, where death is always close at hand, Joey’s courage inspires the soldiers around him… Told with Michael Morpurgo’s characteristic skill and compassion, this heartwarming animal story is set against a vividly-evoked backdrop of trench warfare.

Seeing as the main character and narrator was a horse, this book was quite difficult to relate to and didn’t deal with the horrors of the war very well. I did enjoy some aspects of the novel, but overall it wasn’t for me.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and to put it into a few words… I loved it. I thought War Horse was brilliant! It is the most touching book I have ever read, and I would recommend it to anyone, even if they aren’t animal lovers! This book has the most spectacular points of a horses view and it also shows that there is nothing to be scared about horses. Very touching!

For me this book was a but too sad, I like a bit of humour but I still enjoyed it! This book is defiantly for older readers as there is a lot of upsetting scenes like horse deaths in battles and horrible deaths etc. this book is probably for 9-100 year olds!

This book is set in 1914, World War Two and is about a young farm horse called Joey who is sold to the army and is made to go into battle on the western front. As he is in the battle he witnesses all the terror on the frontline. But Joey’s courage inspires the soldiers around him…

This book is amazing!! If you don’t want to read the book why not see it on stage in London or see the film?!!! Xx

War Horse is not my favorite Morpurgo book. When reading it I almost felt at though the authors heart was not in it when writing, although it has an interesting plot, the story is rushed in places and boring in others. I am a huge Morpurgo fan, but this is not my favorite.
