We’re very excited to announce the Lollies shortlist for 2024! Our judges had a tough time choosing just four books per category, so we hope you are excited to read the shortlisted books and vote for your favourites.
Jim Smith
Jim Smith is The most boringly-named graphic novelist in the world. That’s why he calls himself Waldo Pancake. When he was a kid, Jim collected coke cans. Now he’s grown up, he draws on paper cups and sugar sachets for a coffee shop chain called Puccino’s. He also writes the Barry Loser kids’ books which have sold over 850,000 copies and won him the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Laugh Out Loud Book Award. In his spare time, Jim makes little birds out of bits and pieces he finds in skips.

Nicola Slater
Nicola Slater is well-known for her distinctive artwork and has illustrated children’s books for over 20 years. She has illustrated Leaping Lemmings!, Hello, Zoo and A Skunk in My Bunk as well as many, many others. Nicola lives with her family in Manchester, England.

Jamie Smart
Jamie Smart has illustrated comics for The Sunday Times, the Dandy, the Beano and Toxic magazine, as well as regularly publishing his well-loved Bunny vs Monkey and Looshkin stories in The Phoenix comic, and as bestselling graphic novels. He won the 2024 British Book Award for best Children’s Illustrated book (Bunny vs Monkey: Multiverse Mix-Up!) and won Illustrator of the Year. Jamie is also the author/illustrator of the middle-grade Flember series, and the Max and Chaffy comic series for younger readers.

Jim Field
Jim Field is an award-winning illustrator, character designer and animation director. He has illustrated many bestselling children’s books, including Oi Frog! (written by Kes Gray) and The Lion Inside (written by Rachel Bright). Jim is also the illustrator of the Rabbit and Bear series, J.K. Rowling’s The Christmas Pig and his debut author-illustrator bilingual picture book, Monsieur Roscoe on Holiday. He lives near Paris with his wife and daughter.
