on 21 October 2018An emotional read!
I read the book within a day as I was gripped. The author weaves mental health into the story from a child's perspective but all of the sad sections are met with hilariousness and fun to keep it balanced. Who would have thought that one boys need to fit in during a school swimming lesson would lead to him taking a journey of discovery and learning the truth about his family. This story has it all - friendship, courage, longing, loss and determination - making it a must read.

Caution...
I bought this book with scholastic points for our elementary school library. I'm glad I read it first because it has sexual innuendo as well as explicit discussions of body parts. We don't need this in our library.
Scholastic: We’re aware that Boy Underwater features a scene where the protagonist loses his trunks in a swimming pool, however there is no sexual innuendo around this. There are references to the technical terms for body parts, but this is mentioned in an educational “everyone has them” way. We recommend the book as 11+ which we feel is suitable for this content, but are happy to provide a refund if you are unsatisfied.
