Jacqueline Wilson

Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first “novel” when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. Since having her daughter, Emma, she has been writing full time.

Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives. Smart girls, strong girls, bad girls, brave girls. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! These powerful stories of plucky girls in difficult circumstances won’t fail to strike a chord.

She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. Her signing sessions attract huge crowds of fans and last for hours! Over 25 million copies of her books have now been sold in the UK alone.

In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author. This was followed by My Secret Diary, a captivating account of Jacky’s teenage years.

In June 2002 Jacqueline was given an OBE for services to literacy in schools, and she was the Children’s Laureate from 2005-2007. She also became a Dame in December 2007.

   Omg i totes luv jacqueline wilson’s books i neva get tired of her books jacqueline is one of the best this book diamond is full of pain and sorrow happiness and lobe its a really nice book very very interesting i totally luved it when i read it…....i would suggest other jacqueline lovers to read this=)

    Diamond is as Delicate as a Daffodil and has a mesmerizing, beautiful talent for Acrobatics she tries to earn a few pennies for the family but it only brings more shame to the Family name. Until Somebody spots her on the streets…..

    I Found this book AMAZING . I loved the end of the book when Hetty and Diamond see the poster of Bearty and there going to meat him . There has to be another book out soon :) .

    ‘Diamond’ is the best book I’ve read so far in this year. She moves from home to a circus far from her home. Also Diamond acts with the Silver boys. She is the best in all the group but at the end of the show her evil master Beppo has a nasty surprise…

    I thought that this book was soooo good, after all, all JACQUELINE WILSON’S books are incredibly good. but I like this book because it is like the Hetty Feather trilogy but from Diamond’s point of view.

    Diamond is an excellent continuation of the Hetty Feather trilogy – the plot and writing are even better than the third HF book itself! Diamond was a lovely character, well developed and very likeable, and it’s nice that the historical context is very well researched and laid out. Even though I’m older than the target demographic I still very much enjoyed it, and the cover is enticing to all ages.

    I think this book was amazing. I found really interesting; it was also cool at the last few pages of the book because when i found out she was running away from the circus i just didn’t want to stop the book and kept on telling my sister to shush it. I thought it was Beppo that was holding onto her while she was on the bike but it was Marvo and he told her that this is her chance so i got relieved that it was Marvo not Beppo.

    I actually thought that Diamond was a good book, at first I thought it wasn’t going to be that great as it’s mainly to do with circuses and I’m not a very big fan of circuses, however this book was really good, and I think I’m actually starting to like circuses now! My favourite part was when Diamond and Emerald first meet each other at the circus and Diamond meets Jem too, it’s a really special part in the book as the both characters are becoming friends and it’s a new relationship emerging in the book. My least favourite part in the book is when Diamond is doing her acrobatics in public to earn some money for her and her sister, and another man asks her to join his circus. At first reading this part, I thought she wouldn’t go because her dad later came at the scene telling Diamond off for performing in public and then refusing the man’s offer for Diamond, but unfortunately because her father was so poor, he accepted the money he was offered and sold Diamond. This part in the book was really upsetting because Diamond was likely to never see her father again. My favourite character in this book is Madame Adeline because often when Mister Marvel would shout or be mean to Diamond, Madame Adeline would be there to support and help Diamond. She seems like a very caring, loving and kind character, as she cleansed and clothed Diamond, and was extremely friendly towards her. My least favourite character is Diamond’s father as he was very cruel to her letting Diamond and her sisters starve, also he just casually gave away Diamond without much paperwork and not really caring who the man was and where he actually came from. Overall, I found this book really good, and enjoyable to read. I think this was the best book out of all the series, and one of my favourite Jacqueline Wilson books. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age, and if I had to rate it out of 10, I would give it a 10.

    i just got this book today and it is fabulous. You might not understand it cause it has no pictures. If you know the book Hetty Feathers,Sapphire Battesea and Emearald Star its part of them books and same authors

    This is an amazing addition to Jacqueline Wilson’s range of brilliant stories! Jacqueline Wlson has done herself proud by writing this book. It tells the emotions of a girl leading a hard life.Diamond is a about a young victorian girl called Ellen Jane. Spotted by a wicked master doing acrobatics in the street Ellen Jane is sold to the circus for five guineas. Life becomes so much more glamrous when Ellen Jane gets her new stage name Diamond and starts performing to the crowds. But life isn’t so nice behind the curtains, her wicked master forces Diamond to attempt even more dangerous tricks. But their are lovely friends at the circus to, the gorgeous Hetty and Madame Adeline. But when life becomes to dangerous in the circus to bear any longer, what will her future be like and will Hetty be part of it? Overall Diamond is a BRILL book and any JW fan age 10+ should definetly give it a marvellous try!
