What kids think

on 29 September 2017Saw this in my 8 year old daughter’s classroom.
LOVE IT. Wonderful book which introduces (not-too-young) kids to the horror genre in a fairly gentle way, starting off with descriptions of classic monsters (e.g., Count Dracula, Lord Ruthven, Carmilla (no Varney, though) to more contemporary ones such as Lestat Lioncourt and Edward Cullen.
When I was my daughter’s age, I would’ve been all over this. Looking very forward to buying a copy and sharing with both my kids.

on 28 March 2011I would not reccomend this book to any child. It appears to educate children on demonic creatures and where they are in the world and who fears them. It is not clear whether they are real or not real. They give detail descriptions on how they hunt, haunt and eat their mostly human prey. They give details on the killiings and it seems all too real. This book should not be in a school or anywhere near young children. The book talks about creatures feared by Haitians and people who practice voodoo and creatures that kill people who go to church. In Japan the creature will kill those who are not budhists. One female spirit targets men and others prey on children. It talks about how one may make a hole in the victims skin with fingernails and suck blood from the hole and chew the flesh, throw away bones and wear the dried skins. This is just too dark and gross for children and simply not neccessary.

Finally found it!!!
Listen here, I’ve been looking for this book for 15 years. FIFTEEN YEARS. When I was a kid in elementary school I saw this at the scholastic book fair and bought it, but unfortunately I gave it to a friend to borrow and it never got returned. I used to read this all the time. To parents saying it’s ’too scary’, well that’s too bad! This was a book that made my childhood brighter.
