Our September 2021 Ages 9-10 Book of the Month

My September Book of the Month for children aged 9 and over is African and Caribbean Folktales, Myths and Legends. This rich collection brings together 18 retellings of African and Caribbean folktales, myths and legends, including Anansi the Spider, Why the Leopard has Its Spots, The King Who Wanted the Moon and The Mysterious Starfruit Tree.

These beautiful tales are classics, but what better time to familiarise yourself with them than in the lead up to Black History Month this October. They have been retold for younger readers so are child friendly, but would appeal to any older children and even adults. It’s the perfect introduction to the classics for future generations of book lovers. Compiled by professional storyteller Wendy Shearer, who regularly performs at The British Museum, The Royal Institution of Arts and Shakespeare’s Globe.
